Klamath River Steelhead Fishing

Image
Klamath River fishing guides are having to work hard for our fish this year. Klamath River fishing is running a little lean but if you put in the time to figure out the puzzle you will be rewarded. Klamath River Steelhead are the reason I started guiding and I will not give up even when it gets tough. We have been catching our klamath river steelhead on yarn, luhrs, and flies, and we have been getting our fish out of winter holding and spawning water. The rest of the week looks like a wash the river is big and on the rise we will be fishing once the river falls back into shape so stand by for a report next week. The winter steelhead season is fast approaching and I will be sending and posting my dates for the Umpqua and Klamath river in a few weeks so get your thermals ready and give me a call.

The Klamath River Steelhead season has finally started to pick up, we saw good fishing this last week after the river dropped into shape. The fish are spread out and not concentrated in the normal places this year, so you really have to work for your bites and make your hook sets count. The winter fish are getting ready to start making their way to the mouths of the rivers and we will be pulling on some chrome rockets before you know it. We will be moving operations up to the Umpqua River soon and this year we will be chasing them giant trophy steelhead that call that river home. Stay tuned for dates and if you want to go you probably better book you date sooner than later.

The Klamath River Steelhead Fishing has been hit and miss for the last few weeks. The river is running a bit higher than normal for this time of year and with the frequent rain storms has been off color and rising every few days. We are picking our way through the storms and finding a few fish. This weekend I observed a lot of steelhead and salmon jumping and rolling around so we have some fresh fish moving in. The rain is supposed to let up for the week and our famous half-pounder steelhead fishing should be better I hope. Winter steelhead season is just around the corner and I am getting ready to move operations up north to the Umpqua River, so let's hope the lower river is fishable this year. I will be sending out and posting my open dates soon, I hope to see you on the river.

The Klamath River fishing for steelhead is off to a good start so far this fall. I got a few solid days of steelhead slaying in before the river blew out on me. The salmon are spawning and the steelhead are feeding. We were getting 15 to 20 fish a day with a few nice adults. The 8 inches of rain we got on the west side of the Klamath brought the river up and with it came the remaining salmon that were stuck in the ocean due to the mouth of the river being sanded closed. The steelhead came pouring in with the rain and I strait whacked on the fish the first two days of the storm. I will be back on the grind tomorrow after the river greens up a little more and I am willing to bet my boat we will see the best fishing of the season. I have four days open 10/30, 11/11, 11/13, and 11/20 so book your trip ASAP. I have 3 other guides running trips for me this year so if you can't make one of my dates work but you want to rip some steel lip let me know and I will find a boat for you. "

It’s been a while since my last fishing report, so I wanted to let folks know what the word on the river was. We have finished up our 2016 fall salmon season on the Klamath River and despite the low quotas and far too early closure we had a pretty darn good season. The mouth of the river has been sanded shut for most of the last month and the fish movement has been slow because of it. If you put in your time and be patient you will get your chance at a KING of the river. I want to thank all of my customers for your support and business. We are shifting gears to focus on the fall steelhead on the Klamath River and I have had a week of fishing trips canceled because of the rain but come Wednesday I will bet we are going to see some of the best steelhead fishing of the season so get a hold of me and let’s go fishing I am offering a $100.00 discount for the next week.
