Klamath River Salmon and Steelhead Fishing

Despite lots of rain and muddy waters, the Klamath River continues to produce. If you wait for perfect weather conditions to fish then you will miss out on many opportunities to land that fish of a lifetime. The Klamath River fishing is hard to beet this time of year because you can target both salmon and steelhead. We fished the other day after 2 inches of rain and the water was black from the recent wildfires and hooked the LARGEST steelhead I have ever seen in this section of the Klamath River. We caught a record fish last year weighing 12 lbs and this fish made that record winner look like a dink. Based on the length and girth of this fish I am guessing it was 15 to 18 pounds. Chrome bright and fatter than a football this fish jumped and fought harder than anything I have ever seen. We were chasing it through a very rocky area and the line got cut. It was a fish of a lifetime, I have been beating on the Klamath River for 35 years and have never got a fish like that. The guy was devastated but I guess that's what keeps us on the pursuit, keep your tip up and don't horse him.
